Abadiño is set to play a special role in the international women's cycling calendar this year, as it will be the starting point for the second stage of the Itzulia Women. This race will take place in Bizkaia on Saturday, connecting the town with Amorebieta.
This high-level international race will traverse the roads of the Basque Country, commencing on Friday in Zarautz and concluding on Sunday in Donostia. The presentation was attended by prominent figures from the sector, as well as local cycling clubs and sponsors who made the event possible.
“"Bringing the best in the world to our town demonstrates the town's immense commitment to women's sports; furthermore, in the case of cycling, great athletes have emerged from this small town, and this is a great tribute."
The City Council highlighted that the world's top female cyclists will be in Abadiño, and the event will be broadcast in 190 countries, produced by ETB and distributed globally via Eurosport.
The organizers have called on all residents to attend the start on May 16, as they will have the opportunity to witness the biggest stars of women's cycling firsthand. The stage will feature five mountain passes and two sprints, covering a total distance of 138 kilometers. The route combines mid-mountain roads with sections of high physical demand, making this stage one of the most selective of the race.
