Durango hosted the Bizikleta Solidarioa last Sunday, an event organized within the framework of European Mobility Week. The initiative, managed by the cycling club Eneicat, was a resounding success, attracting 478 students from fifteen educational centers. "It's far more than we expected," stated Eneritz Iturriaga, a representative from Eneicat.
Participants rode their bicycles on various routes through Durango and its surrounding towns. The event carried a charitable purpose, with the funds raised, totaling 5,041 euros, being presented today at noon to the association La Cuadri del Hospi during a ceremony in Ezkurdi square. "We will direct the money towards a pioneering project in Euskadi that merges childhood cancer treatment with the benefits of sports," explained Susana del Amo, a member of the association.
The initiative also featured a challenge among the participating schools, with awards distributed today. The selection criteria for the winners were based on an average calculation between the total number of students per school and the number of students who participated in the event. Consequently, Nevers school emerged as the top performer, securing a prize of 1,000 euros. Jesuitak school and Zabalarra school secured second and third place, respectively. San Antonio school ranked fourth.
