At Usurbil's Dema Plaza on Saturday, July 18th, the performance 'Ikimilikiliklik Vol.2' will be presented, reinterpreting the works of creators Mikel Laboa, the Artze brothers, and Jose Luis Zumeta from a contemporary perspective.

In connection with the 50th anniversary of the "sentikaria" (conceptual work) 'Ikimilikiliklik', created half a century ago, Loraldia presents 'Ikimilikiliklik Vol.2' at Usurbil's Dema Plaza on Saturday, July 18th, at 10:30 PM. Organized by the local initiative 650 Usurbil Bizi and the NOAUA! Cultural Association, the performance embodies the spirit of Loraldia, defined as an active agent that unites creators and fosters new productions, going beyond being a showcase for Basque creation.
Under the direction of Edurne Azkarate, Iñaki Salvador, Harkaitz Martinez de San Vicente and Itziar Navarro from the group Oreka Tx, Libe Kortazar, Intza Alkain, and Itziar Garaluce will take the stage. The creators have announced that "the echo of the avant-garde will bloom again" on July 18th.
Embracing the same audacity as the original creators, they have given themselves permission "to be contemporary, experimental, and bold," creating an artistic bridge between the boldness of 50 years ago and today's creation. Presenting the performance in Usurbil holds special significance, as the traces of Ez Dok Amairu, the Artze brothers, Mikel Laboa, and Jose Luis Zumeta remain alive there. Adapting a show conceived for theaters to an open-air plaza presents a significant technical and artistic challenge, adjusting the space, lighting, sound, and live visuals.
Alaitz Aizpurua, manager of NOAUA! K.E., emphasized that "they had no doubt that Usurbil was the right place to offer it," as "Basque culture is one of the core elements of the 650 Usurbil Bizi project, and a primary goal of our work is the transmission of Usurbil's heritage." The objectives of both projects align.
For the mayor of Usurbil, Agurtzane Solaberrieta, the event aligns with the 650 Usurbil Bizi project, as it offers the opportunity to "discover many different Usurbils," including "the Usurbil of Ez Dok Amairu," being the birthplace of the movement and commemorating its members Jose Luis Zumeta, the Artze brothers, Mikel Laboa, and the sculptor Remigio Mendiburu.
The organizers are clear that "it is not a tribute, nor a repetition," but rather "a performance created in dialogue with the original Ikimilikiliklik." They state, "The minimum we owe to the original Ikimilikiliklik is to take the liberty to play as contemporaneously as they did," adding, "we look with respect both to the legacy and to the artistic boldness they practiced."
In that innovative work presented half a century ago, Mikel Laboa, the Artze brothers, and Jose Luis Zumeta, among others, fused music, poetry, audiovisuals, and art. That work became "an icon of modernity and experimentation in Basque," and producer Loraldia will present the "Ikimilikiliklik of the 21st century," based on the fusion of different cultural disciplines.
After its premiere in Pamplona in November 2025, the show will continue its tour until 2027. The stop in Usurbil will be special, as several of the original creators are from the area. The work, prepared for indoor venues, will be offered for the first time in an open-air plaza, as "part of the commitment to promote the transmission, innovation, and visibility of contemporary Basque culture."
The performance 'Ikimilikiliklik Vol.2' will take place on Saturday, July 18th, at 10:30 PM in Usurbil's Dema Plaza. Admission is free. Organizers: 650 Usurbil Bizi and NOAUA! Kultur Elkartea.
