Events organized in Usurbil to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the sculpture honoring bertsolari Rikardo Arregi have been postponed due to a strike in the performing arts and events sector in the Basque Country.

The sculpture dedicated to bertsolari Udarregi, created by Remigio Mendiburu, is nearing its 60th anniversary, having been inaugurated on May 22, 1966. To mark this occasion, the NOAUA! Cultural Association and the popular initiative 650 Usurbil Bizi had planned various activities for May 15th and 22nd.
However, the first scheduled event, set for May 15th, has been moved to Sunday, May 17th. This postponement is a consequence of a strike by the performing arts and events sector in the Basque Country, called by unions Teknikariok, ESK, LAB, UGT, ELA, and CCOO. They are protesting structural precarity in the sector and demanding a dignified first collective agreement, urging artists and audiences to refrain from attending events.
Therefore, the first session of the cycle “Usurbil of Basque language and art. The echo of Rikardo Arregi 60 years later,” which includes the screening of Oskar Alegria's film Oteiza 14 apostolu and a subsequent discussion, will now take place on May 17th, at 7:00 PM, in the Sutegi auditorium. The discussion will feature director Oskar Alegria and the president of the Jorge Oteiza Foundation's board of trustees. Tickets can be purchased for 6 euros in advance on the usurbilkultura.eus website or at the NOAUA! Cultural Association's headquarters, with members paying 4 euros.
The second event, on Friday, May 22nd, remains as scheduled. On this day, at 6:00 PM, the short film Zutik will be screened in the Sutegi auditorium. This film is based on the memorable lecture given by Rikardo Arregi in Usurbil in 1966. Following the screening, a discussion led by Naiz Irratia will be held, with participants including Ainara Mendiola (film director), Ismael Manterola (dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts), and Idurre Eskisabel (secretary general of Euskalgintzaren Kontseilua). The event will conclude at Remigio Mendiburu's sculpture, with the participation of Maialen Lujanbio and Jakoba Errekondo. Tickets will be free via the usurbilkultura.eus platform.
