The Pasaia City Council has sent a request to the Department of Mobility, Tourism and Territorial Planning of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa to address the disturbances caused by public buses stopping at the San Pedro roundabout.

This initiative responds to a demand raised by residents during district assemblies organized by the City Council, specifically in the session corresponding to San Pedro. Residents expressed concern about buses remaining parked with their engines running for extended periods between journeys.
According to Miren Murua Arrizabalaga, Deputy Mayor of San Pedro, this practice generates annoying noise levels and unnecessary polluting emissions, directly impacting air quality, the urban environment, and the well-being of citizens.
In light of this situation, the City Council has asked the Provincial Council to analyze the problem and consider adopting measures to reduce both acoustic and environmental impacts. Proposed solutions include the progressive electrification of the bus fleet operating in the municipality, particularly in the San Pedro district, and the implementation of protocols to prevent unnecessary engine operation during prolonged stops.
Furthermore, the City Council proposes incorporating more stringent environmental criteria in future public transport service tenders and concessions, aiming to advance towards a more sustainable model aligned with emission reduction goals. This action is part of the municipal strategy for sustainability, energy transition, and the fight against climate change, which advocates for transport decarbonization and the promotion of cleaner, more efficient mobility systems.
