The agreement aims to address various needs in the district and has three main objectives: to organize the use of the space, establish commitments for a future reorganization of the area, and provide a provisional solution to the parking problems affecting Pasai Antxo.
The most immediate measure resulting from the agreement will be the opening of the Usoz field as free night parking. The space, which usually serves as the school's outdoor playground, can now be used for vehicle parking once the school year concludes.
This decision comes amid parking difficulties the neighborhood has faced in recent months, a situation exacerbated by the Topo construction works and the temporary disappearance of several parking zones.
Consequently, the deputy mayor of Antxo, Mikel García Peñil, has released a video on YouTube explaining that to facilitate parking in Antxo, the Luzuriaga area will revert to its original function.
However, both the City Council and the school emphasize that this is a temporary solution and the primary use of the premises will remain educational, recreational, and community-oriented. Therefore, the agreement sets time limitations to reconcile both functions.
During the summer period, the field can be used for parking between 9:00 PM and 8:00 AM, while in winter, the authorized hours will be from 7:00 PM to 8:00 AM. These same time slots will also apply on weekends, ensuring the space continues to serve as an area for play, coexistence, and gathering for children and youth during the day.
The mayor of Pasaia, Teo Alberro, highlighted the importance of institutional collaboration in advancing this initiative. He noted that the agreement would not have been possible without the willingness shown by Pasaia-Lezo Lizeoa. Alberro also stressed that there was a consensus from the outset of discussions on the need to preserve Usoz's educational and recreational character, which is why parking use has been limited to nighttime hours.
Furthermore, the mayor announced that a participatory process will be launched with the educational community during the next school year to gather proposals and needs regarding the future of this space.
For his part, the director of Pasaia-Lezo Lizeoa, Iker Vidal, positively assessed the agreement, recalling that it responds to a demand from families within the educational community.
Vidal believes the agreement provides legal security to both institutions by defining responsibilities and operational criteria. He also highlights that the document lays the necessary groundwork for a comprehensive reorganization of the playground in the future.
Finally, the City Council and the educational center stated that the agreement will have the necessary flexibility to adapt to specific needs of the district, the school community, or social and sports activities. In this regard, the Council is already in contact with the organizers of the futbito championship currently taking place in the area to coordinate the shared use of the space.
