The bus operator managed by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, Ekialde, will implement new service conditions from October 1st, particularly along the corridor between San Sebastián and Bidasoa, passing through the municipalities of Oarsoaldea.
The new concession will last for 10 years, with an option for a 5-year extension, and last year it served over 10.7 million passengers. Most changes will take effect on October 1st, though the new direct line between Oiartzun and Hospitals (OR08) will launch earlier, on September 1st.
The fleet will expand to 57 buses, 30 of which are hybrid. The number of lines will be reduced from 30 to 28 (17 daytime, 6 nighttime, and 5 special) to optimize routes. A total of 22,416 annual journeys will be made, a 15.65% increase, raising the daily average of services from 53 to 61.
Key general improvements include extended operating hours (from 5:00-6:00 AM to 10:30-11:00 PM), better route coordination, unified winter and summer schedules, and 24-hour service on weekends. The service will also feature more articulated buses with increased capacity and vehicles equipped for luggage.
Errenteria will gain over 300 additional services and a faster connection to Hospitals via the new line. Lezo will also benefit from 24-hour weekend service. Pasaia will see an increase in night services and 24-hour coverage from Friday to Sunday. Irun and Hondarribia will also experience improved connections, particularly during nighttime hours and with the airport.
