This tribute, dedicated to individuals or entities linked to the municipality's social life, was decided through a participatory process. A total of 62 citizen proposals were received, from which 15 finalist candidacies were selected, ultimately choosing to honor the work of the local Red Cross group.
The organization's history in the municipality began in May 1984, initiated by several volunteers. Since then, Red Cross Lasarte-Oria has played an active role in emergency response, preventive measures, accompanying the elderly, and supporting vulnerable individuals. The group currently comprises around fifty volunteers.
Their presence is common at festivals, sporting events, and large gatherings, where they contribute to prevention and assistance efforts. However, a significant portion of their daily work focuses on the social and community sphere, supporting those in need.
“"This tribute aims to recognize the commitment of those who dedicate part of their time to helping others altruistically."
Mayor Agustín Valdivia Calvo highlighted that the Red Cross embodies values such as solidarity, commitment, and a vocation for service. Meanwhile, the Councilor for Festivities, Txus Alonso Ocáriz, emphasized that the celebrations also serve as an opportunity to publicly thank associations and individuals who contribute to improving citizens' quality of life.
Additionally, the official poster for the festivities was unveiled. The winning artwork, titled Intxisu txupinazo, was created by artist Jesús García Vivar from Burgos. This piece triumphed over thirty other submissions, and its creator will receive a prize of 600 euros.
