Hernani City Council and the San Marcos Commonwealth have established a protocol allowing residents to collect second-hand items for free from the Ibarluze Garbigune, promoting reuse and environmental protection.

The Hernani City Council and the San Marcos Commonwealth have implemented a joint protocol to encourage the reuse of items deposited at the Ibarluze Garbigune that are still in good condition. This initiative allows residents to acquire second-hand products free of charge, contributing to environmental conservation.
This new service will be managed through the trukehernani.eus website, which Hernani City Council launched in 2024. The platform, which has so far facilitated exchanges between individuals, will now also display items available at the Garbigune. The protocol was presented by the Councillor for Environment, Ainara Atorrasagasti, and the President of the San Marcos Commonwealth, Eñaut Gracia.

"The platform can be accessed via the trukehernani.eus website, where products available at the Garbigune will now be clearly marked, differentiated from those exchanged between private individuals."

As stated by Eñaut Gracia, this is the first protocol of its kind undertaken jointly by a city council and the San Marcos Commonwealth, which is responsible for managing the Garbigune. A dedicated space has been created within the municipal recycling center to house items offered for a second use. Garbigune technicians will decide, based on the condition of the items, whether they are suitable for reuse.

The objective is clear: to seek reuse that can greatly benefit environmental conservation.

Interested parties can reserve items on the website and will have a maximum of seven calendar days to collect them. Registration is mandatory to use the service. This new system will be trialed for six months by both the San Marcos Commonwealth and Hernani City Council.
