This year's presentation of the Sagardo Eguna, held on Thursday, was a modest yet emotional event. It took place in Foru plaza, where it was announced that the festival will commence on April 25 at 12:00 PM in the same location. Organizers stated that "during that time, dultzaineros, trikitilaris, txistularis, dantzaris, txalapartaris, bertsolaris, and many more will enhance the atmosphere."
Activity will continue into the afternoon, following tradition. At 6:00 PM in Zumardia, the afternoon 'txotx' (cider tapping) will take place, offering a taste of the latest harvest from numerous cider producers across Euskal Herria. Participants will receive a glass, a pintxo to satisfy their hunger, a neck scarf, and a raffle ticket for a meal at a cider house.
We have embraced the custom, the habit, the tradition of the Basques to organize this day. What makes us Basque? The language, Euskera. Let it be a custom, a habit, our interaction; in Euskera, of course.
The organizers highlighted the Basque language and respect as central themes of the event. They underscored the importance of Euskera as the foundation of Basque identity and called for its use in interactions. Furthermore, they emphasized that respect is crucial, stating, "we will not tolerate any type of sexist aggression, not even on April 25," stressing respect for those working and for mutual care.
During the presentation, Egi-Luze and Donosti Sagardotegia cider houses were honored for their years of contribution to the organization of Sagardo Eguna. The organizers expressed their gratitude to Joakin, Pili, Eli, Jokin, and the other members of Donosti Sagardotegia, highlighting them as examples of community work, coherence, and Basque cultural advocacy. Similarly, Antton, Peio, Joxeluis, Joxemari, Mariangeles, Mariaxun, and Anamari, the siblings from Egi-Luze cider house, were also praised for their enthusiasm, readiness, and generosity. As part of the tribute, a 'txotx' was held in Foru plaza, accompanied by verses and an aurresku, commemorating that the work of both cider houses has been indispensable for the success of Errenteria's Sagardo Eguna over the years.
