The Errenteria City Council has implemented a new access control system using automatic license plate recognition cameras on Hondarribia and Donostia streets.

The initiative aims to enhance security, improve accessibility, and ensure a more orderly use of public space by automatically monitoring vehicle entry into these areas.
The system will employ License Plate Recognition (LPR) technology to manage authorized access and detect violations of current restrictions, balancing economic activity and mobility needs with the protection of pedestrian zones.
The City Council reminds the public that vehicle access is restricted and non-compliance with established conditions may result in administrative sanctions.
Regarding vehicle schedules, loading and unloading operations are permitted only on weekdays between 08:00 and 12:00. Outside these hours, access is restricted except for vehicles with specific authorization.
Furthermore, the system allows for parking access during nighttime hours, specifically between 20:00 and 08:00, aiming to facilitate the use of existing parking spaces without compromising the area's pedestrian functionality during the day.
The Council emphasizes that this scheduling will optimize public space usage while ensuring the supply of goods to shops, access to services, and parking needs for residents and authorized users.
The system's implementation also necessitates updating access authorizations for garage users and other vehicles with right-of-way who are not yet registered in the new license plate recognition database.
This measure is part of the City Council's broader efforts to promote more orderly and secure mobility, reducing vehicle presence in pedestrian-priority areas and fostering a balanced coexistence between different urban uses.
