The Donostia-San Sebastián City Council has approved a direct subsidy of 210,540.66 euros to Fomento de San Sebastián to develop the Ekinn Dendak 2026-2027 program, an initiative aimed at strengthening commercial entrepreneurship and revitalizing the Mercado de la Bretxa and the city's economy.

This economic boost initiative continues the previous two editions and incorporates new lines of action to foster business creation, diversify the commercial offering, and explore opportunities linked to design, creativity, and innovation.
Ekinn Dendak responds to the commitment of the Department of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption to the modernization and competitiveness of local commerce, as well as to the generation of new business opportunities adapted to current consumption habits. In this context, the Mercado de la Bretxa is proposed as a space of opportunity to host new projects, recover activity in vacant stalls, and reinforce its commercial appeal.
The third edition of Ekinn Dendak will allow entrepreneurs to test their business ideas in real commercial spaces, with specific training, individualized advice, and monitoring of each project's evolution.
The program includes two participation modalities: on one hand, co-shopping, which facilitates the development of commercial activities in shared spaces for periods between eight and twelve months; and on the other, the pop-up format, which allows for temporary occupation of commercial spaces for shorter periods, facilitating the experimentation of new ideas, products, and business models.
Participants will receive training in digital skills, business management, and networking, along with individualized tutoring and professional support during the experimentation phase. Monitoring will include aspects such as sales, customer acquisition and loyalty, commercial positioning, and the economic viability of each initiative.
The program also includes communication and commercial promotion actions, promotional campaigns, and meetings aimed at fostering an entrepreneurial culture and relationships among local commerce stakeholders.
Among the main novelties of this edition is the focus on entrepreneurship among migrant individuals and on generational succession in established businesses whose continuity may be at risk due to a lack of successors.
The initiative thus seeks to contribute to a more diverse, inclusive, and dynamic commercial fabric, facilitating both the launch of new activities and the continuity of existing businesses.
The program is complemented by an analysis of the potential of design as an area for commercial entrepreneurship and urban revitalization. This work will identify agents, resources, and business opportunities related to design, creativity, and innovation, as well as study models that can contribute to diversifying the city's commercial offering.
With this initiative, the Department of Tourism, Commerce, and Consumption reinforces its collaboration with the Donostia-San Sebastián City Council to generate business opportunities, diversify commercial activity, and help keep alive the spaces that are part of the city's identity and economic life.
