Nearly six years after their last flag in the waters of Getxo, Deusto savored the taste of triumph again this Sunday, clearly winning the second day of the ARC-1 League held in the port of Pasaia. Many of the rowers who competed in the Vizcayan boat achieved their first victory.
The 'Tomatera' engaged in a close contest with Zarautz during the first part of the regatta before subsequently shattering their rivals' times in the final third of the race. Kaiku has not had a strong start to the season; after finishing ninth in Astillero on the first day, they lost a position this Sunday, being overtaken by Hibaika. Arkote continues its difficult season, finishing last again, far behind the other boats.
After the first two league days, Deusto holds second place in the standings, just one point behind the leader, Zarautz. The regatta in Pasaia was ultimately held as an individual time trial due to issues with the fixation of one of the buoys. Astillero was disqualified by the judges for not passing the correct buoy.
Deusto showed promise on the first day of the ARC-1, on Saturday in Astillero, finishing third just seven seconds behind the winning team. However, on the second day, the team led by Aitor Altzibar made a significant impact in Pasaia, winning the flag with a twelve-second advantage over Zarautz and a remarkable twenty-seven seconds over the third-placed team, Zumaia.
Shortly after the race began - with six lengths and five turns - Zarautz and Deusto pulled ahead, with the Guipuzcoan boat holding a slim one-second lead at the third turn. The situation began to change in the fourth length, where the 'Tomatera' took the lead from their rival, establishing a two-second advantage that grew to six seconds by the fifth and final maneuver. The crew, steered by Iker Gimeno, maintained their pace and, after an excellent final length, finished the race with over twelve seconds ahead of the second-placed boat. Kaiku finished more than a minute and a half behind the winner.
