The Azkorte hermitage, nestled in Urnieta's Ergoien neighborhood, is set to host the Santa Kruz pilgrimage this Sunday, May 3rd. A morning-long program has been prepared for the celebration, allowing residents to participate in a day that blends music, bertsolaritza (Basque improvised poetry), and religious events in a traditional, festive atmosphere.
The schedule will commence at 11:00 AM with the romeria (pilgrimage procession), led by the group Komerik. Following this, at 12:15 PM, there will be a bertsolaritza session featuring poets Unai Gaztelumendi and Andoni Mujika. The day's events will conclude with a mass at 1:00 PM.
Furthermore, the organizers have announced that attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a traditional hamaiketako (mid-morning snack) within the pilgrimage grounds. Additionally, the road to Azkorte will be closed throughout the morning to restrict traffic and facilitate the smooth running of the event.
Consequently, a free bus service will be made available for residents to travel to Azkorte. Buses will depart from the Idiazabal street 40 location between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, making as many trips as necessary based on demand. Organizers have specified that the final ascent will be at 12:30 PM.
The Santa Kruz pilgrimage is one of the traditional fixtures in Ergoien's calendar, annually drawing dozens of residents to the Azkorte area, uniting religious observance with a vibrant community spirit.
