The Astigarraga City Council is actively working to alleviate parking issues within the municipality, introducing twelve new parking spaces at the entrance to the Bidebitarte industrial park. This initiative aims not only to increase parking availability but also to bolster safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
Municipal sources state that "the local government has been striving for years to mitigate the parking problem in the town." To achieve this, parking arrangements have been reorganized in several areas, including changes to traffic flow and repainting, such as those carried out on Oialume Bidea, Donostia Ibilbidea, and Troia Ibilbidea streets.
Furthermore, recent construction of the cycle path on Pelotari Street has ensured the preservation of existing parking spaces, with a total of 81 spaces being maintained. Last winter, repainting efforts also created approximately 20 additional parking spots on Donostia Ibilbidea, near Portutxo.
The entrance to the Bidebitarte industrial park from Donostia Ibilbidea will be closed to vehicular traffic, "as it does not experience significant vehicle flow and an easy alternative access route exists." This measure also "enhances the safety of cyclists and pedestrians using the cycle path" on that street.
The current repainting works, underway this week, will establish the 12 new parking spaces, and the entrance will be secured with planters. Additionally, the Council will highlight the access points to the cycle path in red at various locations, "to ensure easy visibility and increase safety".
The City Council expressed satisfaction with "finding central alternatives" for creating new parking spaces and affirmed its commitment to "continue working on this whenever opportunities arise." Finally, it was announced that parking spaces currently affected by construction on Pelotari Street will be available from June 15th.
