This initiative responds to the challenging situation faced by the people of Cuba, exacerbated by the blockade imposed by the United States. This context affects all aspects of daily life, including transportation, access to food and water, healthcare, and education.
The collection will proceed in two phases: initially at schools, followed by supermarkets. Until Friday, April 26, collection points will be located at the entrances of Elkar Hezi and Txantxiku ikastola schools. On Saturday, the campaign will move to Eroski, BM, and the San Miguel cooperative.
Among the requested items, medical supplies and food products are prioritized, with strict expiration date requirements to ensure their usability. Medicines expiring after June 2027 are being collected, along with medical instruments such as forceps, scalpels, sutures, gloves, and condoms. Nutritional supplements like vitamins, minerals (magnesium, iron), and Omega 3 fatty acids are also included.
Non-perishable food items (pasta, legumes, powdered milk, nuts, oil, and tomato bricks) must have a best-before date after January 2027. Additionally, the campaign includes the collection of hygiene products such as sanitary pads, tampons, wipes, and diapers for both children and adults, as well as cleaning supplies like brooms, mops, rags, and bottle cleaners.
In the educational category, items like pencils, notebooks, colored paints, and scissors are requested, with the explicit clarification that textbooks and encyclopedias will not be accepted. Finally, sports equipment will also be received, ranging from balls and rackets to bicycles and apparel such as t-shirts, shorts, or football boots.
