The POBA project will launch a comprehensive agenda of free activities in Aretxabaleta for residents over 70 years old, aiming to enhance their well-being and quality of life. The agenda will cover physical, cognitive, emotional, and nutritional areas.
All activities will be held at the Karmele Igartua Hall (former convent). Physical exercise sessions will be led by professionals from the company ATHLON; intergenerational activities will be promoted by ALE (Aretxabaleta Vocational School) and Arizmendi Vocational Training; and the Health and Well-being Workshops will be coordinated by the cooperative OSARTEN.
Regarding physical exercise, senior gymnastics will take place on Wednesdays, from 10:00 to 11:00, from October to June. A maximum of 25 participants will be allowed, and registration is required at Social Services or Basotxo. Adapted gymnastics (KOI: Coordination-Balance-Strength) will be held on the same day, from 11:00 to 12:00, under similar conditions.
On the first Tuesday of each month, from 9:30 to 11:30, a healthy walk will depart from the Karmele Igartua Hall to promote active aging and healthy habits. The walks will be adapted to the participants' abilities and do not require prior registration.
A home-based physical exercise service will be offered on Thursday mornings for individuals unable to leave their homes. Information and registration can be obtained from the health center nurses or Social Services.
Talks and workshops: On alternate Thursdays, from 10:00 to 11:00, in collaboration with ALE and Arizmendi, activities will be held to foster intergenerational relationships. This year's topics will include memory, strength training, games, advice on preventing falls, mobilization techniques, Zumba, boxing, first aid, computer skills, and cooking, among others.
The health and well-being workshops are organized into three modules: November, January-February, and April-May. There will be talks open to all citizens and practical workshops for registered participants. Key topics will include bone health, the immune system, cardiovascular health, emotional management, and sleep quality.
The workshops will have a maximum of 15 participants, and registration will be at the health center nurses or Social Services. Additionally, workshops on fall prevention and Nordic walking will be offered, with dates and details to be announced later.
