This traveling exhibition is part of a program that will visit 13 locations across Gipuzkoa, Bizkaia, and Araba. Bergara is the fifth stop, following its presentation in Zarautz, Beasain, Zalla, and Donostia. The exhibition will be open at the Laboratorium Museum until May 21.
Also participating in the event were the mayor of Bergara, Gorka Artola, and the museum's director, Rosa Errazkin. Pérez Iglesias highlighted the exhibition's educational and emotional value, stating, “Observing a total solar eclipse is one of the most exciting experiences a person can have in their life when contemplating a natural phenomenon. With this initiative, we aim to provide an intellectual component, without neglecting the emotional aspect, allowing us to better understand astronomy and the functioning of the solar system.”
The director of the Laboratorium Museum, Rosa Razkin, expressed her satisfaction that Bergara is part of this traveling science outreach program, emphasizing that “the total solar eclipse on August 12 will be a unique opportunity to spark curiosity for science and to understand our surroundings through astronomy.”
The exhibition, composed of scientific illustrations, is designed to present this astronomical phenomenon in a didactic, accessible, and attractive way for all audiences, inviting citizens to understand and enjoy an exceptional event.
The exhibition is part of a traveling program of outreach activities that will bring science to various points in the Basque Autonomous Community (BAC). The initiative, promoted by the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation, has the collaboration of over 20 entities integrated into Jakindari, the Alliance for Scientific Culture, including the DIPC and Aranzadi, who have participated in the development of the exhibition.
Bergara is the fifth stop on this tour, after visiting Zarautz—where it was inaugurated by the minister—Beasain, Zalla, and Donostia. The four totems that make up the exhibition will continue their tour through public and cultural spaces in Durango, Bilbao, Barakaldo, Vitoria-Gasteiz, Salinas de Añana, Valdegovía, La Puebla de Labarca, and Laguardia.
In parallel to the exhibition, the Laboratorium Museum hosts a program of complementary activities related to the eclipse. Since the installation of the exhibition in the museum's garden, guided tours and educational workshops have been organized for both the general public and families. Furthermore, this morning, coinciding with International Museum Day, Laboratorium offered a special guided tour to present the exhibition's content and the total solar eclipse phenomenon to the public.
The program will continue on June 11 at the Seminarixoa in Bergara, with the conference in Basque "Eclipses y enigma" delivered by Mikel Falxa, a postdoctoral researcher from the DIPC, in collaboration with Kutxa Fundazioa. On July 3, Josu González from the Ilatargi Astronomy Association will offer the talk “Eclipses: los astros jugando al escondite” (Eclipses: the stars playing hide-and-seek), also in Basque at the Seminarixoa.
These initiatives are part of the set of actions promoted with the Jakindari entities, which include outreach lectures, workshops, guided tours, and astronomical observations in various towns.
All information about these activities is available on the official website [eklipsea.euskadi.eus](https://eklipsea.euskadi.eus/es/home), which also includes educational content, practical tips for observing the eclipse, links of interest, and multimedia resources.
Jakindari, created by the Department of Science, Universities and Innovation in 2025 and already boasting over 70 member entities, is the Alliance for Scientific Culture in the BAC. Its main objective is to pool the efforts of different entities to bring scientific knowledge to various points in our territory, promoting joint activities and the exchange of best practices.
Twenty Jakindari entities participated in this 2026 outreach program focused on the August solar eclipse: Aranzadi Science Society, DIPC, ZarautzOn, Lemniskata Goierriko Zientzia Sare Errikoia, Betelgeuse Enkarterrietako Astronomia Elkartea, Tabakalera, EHU, Kutxa Fundazioa, Polymat, Laboratorium Zientzia Museoa, Bixenta Mogel library, Izarra Astronomia Elkartea, Norarte, Abadiñoko Udala, Logos Elkartea, Astrobizkaia, Barakaldoko Udala, the Natural Science Museum of Araba, CEA-Center for Environmental Studies, and the Astronomical Association of Araba.
These are joined by other entities such as the Citizenship School of the Vitoria-Gasteiz City Council, the Valle Salado Foundation of Añana, the city councils of La Puebla de Labarca and La Guardia, and the tourism office of Valdegovía, which have made it possible for the exhibition to reach more points in Álava.
