Workers from the Technical Vehicle Inspection (IAT) centers in Bergara and Zarautz held a press conference this morning in Bergara to report that the labor dispute, which began in July, remains unresolved. They have been on strike for 68 days and have urged both the company and the Basque Government to act responsibly "once and for all."
The workers stated that during a meeting held on July 23rd at the Labor Relations Council in Donostia, their demands were not taken into account, and the situation is escalating. Furthermore, they reported that one worker has received a dismissal letter and seven others have faced complaints from the company. The employees have made it clear that they will not be intimidated by the company's stance, and that there will be no agreement unless these measures are reversed.
They highlighted that in recent months, residents from Bergara, Zarautz, and surrounding towns have also expressed their concerns. They warned that the situation could have serious consequences, as services are not being provided in Zarautz and Bergara, and the IAT centers in nearby towns are heading towards collapse. They denounced that if this continues, it will be impossible to adequately guarantee public safety.
The employees have stated they will continue to mobilize until the situation is resolved. To this end, they will hold a demonstration on September 24th in Bergara, starting from Irala street at 7:00 PM. On October 1st, they will demonstrate in Zarautz. They have called on all citizens to participate and have also launched signature collection campaigns to show support for the workers and present them to the Basque Government.
