Farmers in Gipuzkoa have denounced the measures imposed by the Basque Water Agency, labeling the collection of water taxes and the mandatory installation of meters as unfair.

During an informative meeting held in Elgeta, approximately 70 people gathered at the call of the EHNE union. The session focused on the notifications received since 2021 and the 2025 warnings regarding potential fines for failing to install the required measurement devices.
Union representatives emphasized that farmers have historically built and maintained their own water systems and storage tanks. Consequently, they view the new charges as discriminatory and are encouraging collective action to refuse the installation of these meters.
To address this issue, a coordination group is being formed across Gipuzkoa. The goal is to unite representatives from each town to prepare technical reports, collect signatures, and organize joint protests.
