The heatwave peaked on Monday, with an average temperature of 31.7 degrees recorded in Arrasate. The highest value of the last seven days was reached yesterday at noon, hitting 41.7 degrees.
Emergency services at the Debagoiena Hospital have reported that the heat has significantly affected the population. The most vulnerable groups have been the elderly, those living alone, and patients with chronic conditions.
“"The level of care required by patients with illnesses has increased, and the health problems we have detected include more dizziness, loss of consciousness, hypotension, disorientation, and heat-related complications."
To address the situation, local councils have set up climate shelters. In towns like Arrasate and Eskoriatza, festival programs have been adjusted to prevent incidents. In Aretxabaleta, the local government has opened sports facilities and provided water inflatables for residents.
