Gipuzkoa Provincial Council to Invest 14.9 Million Euros in Road Rehabilitation

The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council and Bidegi will allocate 14.9 million euros to rehabilitate 46 kilometers of road surface on the AP-8, AP-636, AP-1, and GI-20 highways during 2026 and 2027.

The Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, in collaboration with Bidegi, will invest 14.9 million euros between 2026 and 2027 to rehabilitate 46 kilometers of road surface on the territory's main highways, aiming to enhance road safety.

This significant investment will cover the AP-8, AP-636, AP-1, and GI-20 roads, and will be carried out in two phases. The first phase, in 2026, will involve interventions on approximately 21 kilometers, divided into 13 sections. The second phase, in 2027, will see another 25 kilometers rehabilitated, including various regional sections.

The activities are aimed at continuously improving road safety and pavement conditions.

Among the works planned for 2026, on the AP-8, in the direction of Bilbao, 3.2 kilometers will be improved between Mendaro, Elgoibar, and Eibar. In the direction of Behobia, 2.4 kilometers will be adapted near Elgoibar and 4.3 kilometers near Deba. On the AP-636, in the direction of Bergara, 1.5 kilometers will be repaired between Ormaiztegi and Ezkio-Itsaso, and another 925 meters in Bergara. In the direction of Beasain, a 1.6-kilometer section in Zumarraga. On the AP-1, three sections will be renovated in the direction of Eibar: 2.8 kilometers in Arrasate, and two sections of 1.9 kilometers and 1 kilometer in Bergara. Additionally, on the GI-20 road, the 800-meter section between Errenteria and Pasaia will be repaired in both directions.
Rehabilitation works scheduled for 2027 will cover an additional 25 kilometers. On the AP-8, in the direction of Bilbao, one kilometer will be conditioned in Mendaro; in the direction of Behobia, 660 meters will be renovated in Deba. On the AP-1 highway, in the direction of Eibar, two sections will be rehabilitated: 2 kilometers between Eskoriatza and Aretxabaleta, and 2.1 kilometers between Arrasate and Oñati. In the direction of Vitoria-Gasteiz, the pavement of two other sections will be improved: 2.1 kilometers between Arrasate and Aretxabaleta, and 2 kilometers between Aretxabaleta and Eskoriatza.
