The Elgeta Town Hall has awarded the contract for works to improve access to the Urrejalei farmhouse, with a budget of 70,000 euros, and the work is scheduled to begin in July.

Residents of the Urrejalei farmhouse, in the Isusigarra neighborhood of Elgeta, had been requesting road repairs for years. In response, the Municipal Government approved a 70,000 euro allocation in the 2026 municipal budget. At the ordinary plenary session held on Tuesday, Mayor Ibon Unzetabarrenetxea announced that the works have now been awarded.
The project will be undertaken by the local company Excavaciones Egoarbitza. Funding will come from three sources: the residents of Urrejalei have contributed 11,000 euros, with the remainder to be covered by the Town Hall and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council. The project aims to create a single access road for the two existing dwellings, given the current poor condition.
The works are anticipated to take place around July, weather permitting. Previously, each dwelling had its own road, but now a single road will be renovated.
During the plenary session, Mayor Ibon Unzetabarrenetxea also provided an update on the 2025 financial liquidation, stating that the municipality's economic situation has stabilized. He reported a treasury surplus of approximately 430,000 euros and revenue that exceeded projections by 104%, with an overall expenditure execution rate of 98%.

"Thanks to the work we have been doing over the last two years, we are moving forward and have set the municipal's economic situation on a path to stabilization. These are good figures. This year will be the final year of the financial economic plan, and from next year onwards, we will have the opportunity to start using the surplus. This is good news."

Furthermore, EH Bildu of Elgeta presented a motion concerning the Zaldibar landfill, which experienced a landslide in February 2020. The motion called on the Environmental Department of the Basque Government to address nine serious deficiencies identified during a September 2025 inspection and to conduct air quality studies.
The PNV representative, spokesperson Iker Laka, voted against the motion, highlighting the responsibility of the Zaldibar Town Council and requesting the publication of reports from its Urban Planning Department. He noted the absence of any mention of Zaldibar's council in the motion.
The most extensive debate occurred during the questions and requests session, focusing on the school canteen project. The mayor called for an apology from the PNV for their statements, accusing them of lying and jeopardizing the initial collaborative atmosphere. Two parents from the Canteen Committee also expressed their anger.
