Gaizka Aranegi, a member of the club's management team, explained that the event's goal is "for the youngest to make new friends and put into practice what they have learned throughout the year." They decided to organize this first gathering because the young judokas "miss" the opportunity to compete against judokas from other clubs, something they have more of in other sports.
The objective is to offer an opportunity to enjoy judo, rather than a competition, "promoting respect, friendship, and solidarity." All participating children will receive a commemorative medal and a bag with water and fruit at the end of the day. The event will run from 09:30 to 13:30, divided into two sessions: for those born between 2018 and 2021, and for those born between 2014 and 2017.
Judokas from Ondarroa, Azpeitia, Zumaia, Legazpi, Zarautz, Usurbil, and Arrasate will be present. The organizers anticipate over 200 children and have expressed their gratitude to the Arrasate City Council and all sponsors, without whose support this special festival would not be possible.
Although the academic year is nearing its end, Aranegi emphasized that Sunday's gathering will not be the last event for the club's members, as the Gipuzkoa Championship and the Spanish Championship for juniors and cadets remain to conclude the season.
Currently, the Arrasate Judo Club has around 50 judokas and is considered "healthy," according to Aranegi, thanks to the "strong" management team formed in recent years. This team has begun to "work on new things, little by little," aiming to increase the club's visibility and encourage people to try the sport.
