The Food Bank of Gipuzkoa is seeking volunteers to assist with its second major annual collection, scheduled for next Friday and Saturday, November 13th and 14th. The drive will take place at six food stores in Oñati and will be coordinated by the ACESMA association.

In Oñati, food items can be donated at the Eroski supermarkets on Arantzazu Ama street and in Errekalde, at the San Migel cooperative, BM in Olakoa, and the shop in Errekalde. At Eroski, the Cooperative, and BM, in addition to food donations, food vouchers will be available. Organizers emphasize that the presence of volunteers impacts the quantity of donations received, and approximately 100 helpers are needed to cover two-hour shifts.
Volunteers will be responsible for collecting and sorting food items, as well as explaining the food voucher system to customers. Individuals willing to help are asked to contact the Bergara Food Bank at 943 76 21 90. A special appeal is made to schools and companies to form their own volunteer teams.
The coordination of the collection will be managed from Oñati, where volunteers will receive instructions regarding their tasks and available shifts. In Gipuzkoa, the Food Bank currently serves 15,500 beneficiaries, 1,500 fewer than last year. In Oñati, there are 211 beneficiaries, and the number of people receiving aid has decreased by 25% due to improvements in employment and the economic situation.
