The EAJ-PNV councillor, who has served as the municipal opposition leader in Bergara for the past three years, has announced his decision to step down from his position. This move, which will be formalized at next Monday's plenary session, was communicated through a farewell note issued by the party.
“"We have considered that the time has come to close this chapter in my municipal career and make way for new individuals to continue developing the EAJ-PNV project in the Bergara City Council."
The councillor stated that the decision was made after joint reflection with the party and the municipal group. His place will be taken by Esther Ortiz de Zarate, who was seventh on the jeltzale list in 2023 and previously served as a councillor in a prior legislature.
With just over a year until the next municipal elections in 2027, the councillor emphasized that collective projects are strengthened through renewal and openness to new perspectives, energies, and ideas. In his farewell letter, he highlighted his commitment to the well-being of Bergara's citizens and his contribution to improving the municipality.
During his time in the corporation, he led a group of six EAJ-PNV representatives, facing a government of ten EH Bildu councillors. With a long political career linked to the jeltzales, he has held internal party positions and the presidency of the local board. In his statement, he expressed gratitude to the party and those who have accompanied him on this journey, as well as to his colleagues in the municipal group.
He stated that this decision will allow him to begin a new personal stage, to which he wishes to dedicate more time and attention, embracing this change with enthusiasm and the peace of mind that the project remains in good hands, with a prepared and committed team that will continue working for Bergara. He also reiterated his loyalty to the party, assuring that he will remain connected and committed to the values and project of the EAJ-PNV, supporting wherever he can contribute best in the future.
