Arrasate has announced its full program for the San Juan festivities, set to take place from June 12 to 27. The celebration will encompass more than 90 activities, with a particular emphasis on children's and youth programming, addressing requests from parent associations and school assemblies.
The festivities will commence on June 13 with the children's tamborrada and conclude on June 27 in Monterrón with the screening of the documentary Hauspoa eta tunela and a concert by Gorka Hermosa, supported by a wide array of musicians, dantzaris, and txalapartaris.
The schedule blends traditional events such as bull runs, the 'cena cantada' (singing dinner), the Band's concert, 'Zeuk iñ zeuk jan', a youth lunch, the raising of the poplar tree, and Eguzkilaru, alongside new additions aimed at "enhancing the festive experience."
The City Council has made a special effort to expand offerings for children and young people, incorporating citizen suggestions. Alongside established activities like the children's tamborrada, Dantzari Eguna, giants and big-heads, and the Pirritx eta Porrotx show, new proposals have been introduced. Popular free inflatables will be maintained, and activities designed to foster participation among 8 to 15-year-olds have been strengthened, including disco parties in Sebero and the main square, and a spectacular freestyle show featuring rollerblading, BMX, and scootering.
For the first time, a welcome event will be held for babies born since June of last year in the plenary hall, where they will be presented with a festive scarf. This will be followed by a group photograph with the giants in front of the Town Hall, a tradition already observed in towns like Bergara and Oñati.
To alleviate the long queues typically formed before the bull runs, 500 advance tickets per day will be available for the bullring. Approximately 800 more will be sold on the day of the event. This advance sale will take place on Saturdays, June 13 and 20, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
Furthermore, the Arotz Plaza will host, for the second year, the bertsolari festival organized by AED. Participants will include Irantzu Idoate Funosas, Etxahun Lekue Etxebarria, Joanes Illarregi Marzol, and Ane Zuazubiskar Iñarra, with Olatz Zuazubiskar Iñarra serving as the master of ceremonies (gai-jartzaile).
The Youth Olympics, scheduled for Saturday, June 20, will see the participation of 1,000 young people organized into 68 teams, an increase of 150 from last year. The councilor for culture, Andoni Arratibel, praised the efforts of all participants, describing the event as an "extraordinary popular movement."
Concerts will be spread across three main venues: the txosnas (food and drink stalls), Herriko plaza (main square), and Monterrón. Highlights include a dinner concert with Sei Pistols eta Trabuko Bat on June 19; Fitoskins and Gozategi on June 20 in Monterrón; a romería with Zatekeen in the txosnas on June 23; Fillas de Casandra in Monterrón and a verbena with Oxabi in Herriko plaza on June 24; Bele, Maruxak, and Brigade Loco in the txosnas, plus a mobile disco with Oihan Vega in the plaza on June 25; La Perra Blanco in Herriko plaza and Etxepe, La Txama, and Merina Gris in the txosnas on June 26; and the festival's closing on June 27 with a concert and documentary featuring Gorka Hermosa and various artists.
