April is recognized as the month of literature, and the Arrasate Municipal Library, as every year, has prepared an extensive agenda to highlight the importance of reading and culture among citizens. Asun Agiriano, the library's director, stated that Book Day has been celebrated since the 1990s and, beyond being a mere tradition, it serves to emphasize the fundamental role of libraries.
“"Libraries are the heart of culture and knowledge in our towns. Reading is a fundamental tool for understanding the world, as well as a way of empowerment and entertainment."
Between April 23rd and 27th, various activities will take place at Kulturate and the Santa Marina neighborhood library. Initially, the program was scheduled to begin today, Friday, with the show Munstroen bila: ohearen azpian aurkitutakoak by musician Idoia Asurmendi and writer Maria Oses, but it has been canceled. Nevertheless, starting on April 23rd, illustrator Helena Azkarragaurizar will lead the creative workshop Liburu bat maleta bat da at the Santa Marina neighborhood library, aimed at children aged 6 to 12. This practical workshop will focus on creating images.
The program will continue on April 24th with the theater and singing session Ttinka, performed by the duo Arantxa Hirigoyen and Philippe Albor, at Kulturate, for children aged 0 to 7. Finally, on April 27th, journalist Idoia Torregarai will close the Book Day program with the Mikroipuinak writing workshop at Kulturate, at six in the evening. This workshop is aimed at young people and adults, offering the opportunity to learn about micro-stories, practice short-form writing, and analyze short texts. Pre-registration is required for the workshops on the website www.Arrasate.eus.
As explained by Agiriano, the goal of these workshops is to foster writing and imagination, which are crucial components of reading. In addition, literary discussions will also continue. On Book Day itself, the seventh session of Basque literature discussions will be held at Kulturate, where Alex Gurrutxaga will lead a discussion on Jon Gerediaga's poetry collection Argia, lurra, zuhaitza, zerua eta izena eta izana. Gerediaga himself will be present to delve into the details of his work. On April 29th, a Spanish literature discussion will take place about the books Tuya and El tiempo de las moscas by Argentine writer Claudia Piñeiro, moderated by Amparo Montero, at six in the evening at Kulturate.
