Although rain was forecast for today, riders found the circuit to be drier than expected. Upon starting the first timed control (TC) at 08:00, they realized that moisture would be a significant challenge. The initial descents caught many by surprise, and subsequent descents were completed in the Anporreta area.
The morning proceeded generally well, but it was unfortunate that one of the riders sustained an injury during the final descent. The incident occurred in the Wild West section, leaving the rider unable to move. Firefighters had to be called to provide assistance.
Such decisions are not to anyone's liking, but it was a Solomon-like decision.
As a result of the accident, the race was stopped for many minutes, as it was the final descent. This meant that the riders who followed were unable to use this last descent for their classification. The organizers had to make a difficult decision, prioritizing safety.
Overall, both riders and organizers expressed satisfaction with the event. The organization involved significant effort to bring this event to fruition, and to keep some descents secret, organizers were working until the previous night on final markings and trail maintenance.
