The Aretxabaleta Town Council has approved a three-million-euro credit injection, thanks to the surplus generated after the 2025 budget settlement, to launch various works and improvements in the locality.

An additional three million euros have been added to the 2026 Municipal Budget, which was approved last December and amounted to 13,130,000 euros, through a credit injection. This decision was made by the municipal corporation after confirming a surplus of over 7,800,000 euros following the 2025 settlement.

"These credits have been incorporated after the closing of the 2025 settlement; that year concluded with the highest level of expenditure and investment in the last decade, 14.3 million euros, of which 3.4 million euros have been directly allocated to investments."

The purpose of these additional credits is to start works on projects that are nearing completion or already finished as soon as possible, as well as to launch new initiatives or finance those in the drafting phase. Among the priorities are the renovation works of the Iturrigorri fronton, which include adapting changing rooms, expanding stands, and creating a public restroom. Likewise, the allocation for the urbanization of the Andramari neighborhood will be updated, as the previous tender was unsuccessful.
Improvements will also be made to municipal buildings. 320,000 euros will be allocated to install an elevator in the town hall and improve the access area, creating a single service window. The public restroom in Herriko Plaza will also be renovated. Repairs will be carried out in other municipal buildings, such as the old barracks, improving its structure and roof, and other buildings will be adapted for “new uses”.
Furthermore, small urbanization works are planned, such as implementing measures proposed in the mobility plan, making changes to the convent garden, and replanting trees in the square. Other credits will also be approved or adjusted for investments in the new feminist txoko, facade cleaning, drafting the project for repairing the rear of Loramendi street, and creating new gardens.
The PNV voted against the credit injection, citing three main reasons. Firstly, they criticized the lack of development of the projects behind the additional credits. Secondly, they opposed the expenditure for the motorhome wastewater disposal point and a second project to install a covered area in Gipuzkoa square, considering them not to be priorities. Finally, they pointed out that several proposals from the PNV for the initial 2026 budget had not been included, such as the allocation for wall cleaning or the drafting of the Lausitta project.
