Antzuola Kirol Elkartea's (AKE) senior men's team has secured promotion to the Preferente league for the upcoming season. A draw on Saturday between Hernani and Arrupe Chaminade confirmed their advancement, even though AKE still had two matches left to play. The Hernani team has 21 points, while AKE had 27 heading into the penultimate matchday.
Despite having already secured promotion, AKE achieved another victory on Sunday against Beasain at the Loinaz stadium. The final score was 0-2, with goals scored by Oier Aranburu Balestena in the 40th minute and Haritz Mondragón Basurto in the 84th minute.
With this win, AKE reaches 30 points and still has the possibility to improve their standing in the final game of the season. They will host Hernani at home and aim to close the gap with the leader, Ikasberri (33 points). They also need to surpass Trintxerpe and Soraluze (with 31 and 30 points, respectively).
The team, managed by Unai Murgiondo with technical support from Kepa Etxaniz and Ion Madariaga, has been noted for its consistency and solid performance throughout the season, achieving the objective of returning to the Preferente category for 2026-2027.
Following this sporting achievement, the board of Antzuola Kirol Elkartea has issued a statement of congratulations and gratitude on social media. "This award is the result of the work, effort, and commitment throughout the season," the statement highlights, concluding with a "we want to thank everyone who has supported us."
