The Mutriku Town Hall will cede the roof of the Music School to Klik Mutriku Renewable Energy Community for the installation of solar panels. The agreement includes a 25-year lease, with an option to extend it for another five years.
The installation will have a power capacity of 23.4 kWp, with a total of 40 photovoltaic modules to be installed at number 9, Almirante Gaztañeta street. The project's objectives include generating renewable energy and promoting shared local self-consumption. According to current regulations, consumption points must be within a maximum of 5 kilometers from the generation facility, meaning all residents of Mutriku will be able to use the energy produced.
The agreement also specifies that the energy generated will be distributed among consumers, with the main consumers being the members of Klik Mutriku and the Mutriku Town Hall itself. Klik has indicated that this installation is expected to supply around 40 homes, and the spots have already been allocated through a membership campaign conducted in December 2025. Furthermore, in collaboration with the Town Hall's social services, several spots will be reserved for users in vulnerable situations to combat energy poverty.
The Klik renewable energy community was founded by about 15 citizens following a participatory process initiated by the Town Hall. They continuously offer opportunities to join the association, either as a cooperative member, a consumer member, or a supporter.
For the development of the photovoltaic installation, Klik Mutriku has received a grant from the Department of Sustainability of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, which will finance 75% of the project's cost.
The installation at the Music School will be the second project the community will develop in Mutriku; the first was carried out in the school's playground, and the energy generated there is expected to begin being self-consumed by the end of the year. Concurrently, Klik Mutriku is seeking new rooftops and locations for future installations, with the aim of finding a suitable site for a third installation next year.
Thus, the Mutriku Town Hall and Klik Mutriku reaffirm their commitment to a more sustainable, decentralized energy model based on citizen participation.
