The TEK Deba-Itziar energy community, driven by the Deba City Council and the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, will help over 200 homes and small businesses reduce their electricity bills by promoting renewable energy.

More than 200 homes and small businesses in the towns of Deba and Itziar will have the opportunity to reduce their electricity bills thanks to the TEK Deba-Itziar energy community. This project, promoted by the Deba City Council with the collaboration of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, is gradually taking shape.
This initiative will generate local renewable energy through the installation of 286 solar panels on the roof of Luzaro Ikastetxea, with a capacity of 128 kWp. These panels will supply clean energy to those who join the project. Furthermore, participants can benefit from savings of up to 25% on their bills without needing to carry out their own installations or construction work.
The Deba City Council has announced the opening of the registration period for homes and small businesses in Deba and Itziar. The registration process will be carried out in order of completion, as places are limited. To bring the project closer to citizens and answer questions, informative talks will be held. The first of these meetings will take place at the headquarters of Kultur Elkartea in Deba on Wednesday, April 22, at 7:00 PM, and the second in the Burugorri hall in Itziar on April 28 at 6:30 PM.

"This project is a firm commitment to a fairer, more sustainable, and closer energy model. From the government team, we work to offer residents and small businesses the opportunity to benefit from clean and renewable energy, without it entailing an economic burden or the need for additional investments. Furthermore, with the inclusion of the most vulnerable families in the model, we reaffirm our commitment to solidarity and social justice, pillars for building a more equitable and resilient community."

The TEK Deba-Itziar energy community will enable progress towards a more sustainable energy model, reducing emissions, promoting the use of renewable energies, and strengthening local energy sovereignty. This objective is complemented by attention to vulnerable people. In fact, the Deba City Council has planned for a portion of the generated energy to be allocated to families in vulnerable situations, thus reinforcing the social and inclusive nature of the project.
One of the main novelties favoring this project is the recent regulatory update through a Royal Decree, which extends the radius of participation in collective self-consumption from 2 kilometers to 5 kilometers. This change allows a greater number of residents and businesses in the surroundings of Deba and Itziar to be part of the community and benefit from the energy generated.
