The three museums in Elgoibar will open their doors this Sunday, coinciding with International Museum Day. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the roots of the town's industrial development at the Machine-Tool Museum, as well as journey into a more distant past at the Mufomi Fossil and Mineral Museum and the Hezur museum of prehistoric replicas.
At the Machine-Tool Museum, visitors can see representative machine tools crafted by local pioneers, including lathes, milling machines, and planers. All machines are operational, transporting visitors as if they were in a mid-19th-century machining workshop in the Debabarrena region.
The other two museums, Mufomi and Hezur, are located on Artetxe street, adjacent to each other. Mufomi currently houses over 5,100 cataloged pieces, predominantly fossils, but also includes minerals, subterranean fauna, malacology, mining elements, speleology, archaeology, and skulls and skeletons of various fauna.
The Hezur museum, on the other hand, is the result of a personal passion. It features replicas of prehistoric axes, maces, small idols, and other items, all handcrafted.
All these museums will be open for free visits this Sunday, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM in the morning and from 4:30 PM to 7:00 PM in the afternoon.
