The Eibar City Council has tendered the works for the first elevator in Jardiñeta, with an investment exceeding 1 million euros, to improve accessibility for buildings 33 and 35.

The Eibar City Council has put out to tender the works for the first elevator in Jardiñeta, aimed at improving accessibility for buildings 33 and 35 and responding to a resident demand linked to the area's mobility difficulties. The project has a budget of 1,001,964.70 euros and an estimated execution period of six months.
This action marks the starting point of a broader project that includes the installation of two elevators to facilitate movement between the different residential blocks in Jardiñeta and the street. The objective is to enhance the autonomy of residents, especially those who face greater challenges in overcoming existing stairs and slopes.
Currently, buildings 29 and 31 have vehicular access from a small car park. However, to reach buildings 33 and 35, it is necessary to use stairs that overcome a height difference of 7.70 meters. These latter buildings also lack direct vehicular access, meaning their residents rely on stairs and pedestrian paths to reach their homes.
The first elevator will improve the accessibility conditions of buildings 33 and 35. The project includes a lift with a capacity for eight people, equivalent to 630 kilos, which will overcome a gradient of approximately 7.50 meters. The work also includes the necessary pedestrian routes to facilitate access to the homes.
“

"We know that many residents of Jardiñeta have been waiting for this elevator for a long time, and we are aware of its importance for their daily lives. We have worked hard to unblock the situation and overcome the difficulties that have arisen during the project's preparation. Today, we take an important step: the tender is underway, and we are closer to making this resident demand a reality."

Jon Iraola · Mayor of Eibar

"We are not just talking about installing an elevator, but about making it easier for people to enter and leave their homes with greater autonomy and comfort. Jardiñeta needs this intervention, and we will continue working so that, once this first phase is completed, we can also move forward with the second elevator."

"Behind this tender lies a great deal of work to define the technical solution, review the project's impacts, and prepare all the necessary documentation to contract the works. We wanted to take this step with the necessary guarantees so that the action can be developed appropriately."

Andoni Ameztoy · Councillor for Works

"The first elevator will serve buildings 33 and 35 and will allow us to overcome one of the slopes that most condition mobility in this area. We know the wait has been long, but today we can say that the project is moving forward. The tender is a fundamental advance and brings us closer to the moment when residents can begin to notice this improvement in their daily lives. Our goal is for this first intervention to also be the beginning of the complete solution for Jardiñeta."

Andoni Ameztoy · Councillor for Works
Once the first elevator is executed, the municipal intention is to address the second phase of the project, which will serve buildings 29 and 31. This will complete the planned solution for the residential complex, facilitating vertical communication between the buildings and Jardiñeta street.
The complete solution includes two elevators connected to each other and to the street. The lower elevator will overcome a gradient of 10.25 meters, while the upper one will allow for the planned 7.50 meters in this first phase. Both will have a capacity for eight people.
The action is part of the municipal plan to improve accessibility and adds to other interventions carried out in the neighborhood, such as the recent expansion and improvement of the parking area.
With the approval of the expediente and the opening of the award procedure, the City Council advances in the processing of a work that will improve access to homes in Jardiñeta and lay the groundwork for completing, in a second phase, the intervention planned for the four buildings.
The municipal objective is for this investment to contribute to improving the daily lives of residents and to move towards a neighborhood where difficulties arising from slopes have less and less impact on people's mobility and autonomy.
