The Eibar City Council has postponed the tribute event for footballers Mikel Oyarzabal and Jon Gorrotxategi, initially planned for today, as it coincided with International Dance Day activities.

The event, originally set for this Friday, aimed to honor the two footballers, both natives of Eibar, for their Copa del Rey title win with Real Sociedad in Seville. Unzaga Square and the town hall's main hall were designated as the venues for this recognition.
The City Council intended to demonstrate the city's and its residents' support for two athletes who have consistently highlighted their Eibar roots. However, the realization of this tribute event will now have to wait for a future date.
The primary reason for the postponement is the overlap between the tribute and the central activities scheduled in Eibar for International Dance Day. Hundreds of people are expected to gather this afternoon in Unzaga Square to conclude the celebrations with a dance exhibition and a traditional romería, precisely at the same time the tribute to Oyarzabal and Gorrotxategi was planned.
The dance schools, academies, and groups involved in organizing the cultural event expressed their disagreement, arguing that scheduling the tribute to the Real Sociedad footballers at the same time would dilute the objective of attracting people to the world of dance and culture. This objection was conveyed to the Eibar City Council.
After evaluating the request, the Council has decided to cancel today's planned tribute event and postpone it to a new date, which is yet to be determined and will be announced accordingly.
