Eibar will once again place democratic memory at the center of its cultural and institutional agenda with a program running from April 14 to 26. This initiative will combine official events, conferences, theater, guided tours, and family activities to mark 95 years since the proclamation of the Second Republic.
The events will commence on Tuesday, April 14, at 10:30 AM, in Unzaga, with an institutional act attended by Fernando Martínez López, Secretary of State for Democratic Memory. On the same day, a new plaque will be placed at the Town Hall, linked to this memorial recognition.
Social advances of the Second Republic and the role of women
In the afternoon, the program will continue with one of the cycle's most prominent gatherings: a round table discussion at the Coliseo titled Social advances of the Second Republic and the role of women. Speakers will include Cristina Almeida, Manuela Carmena, and Paquita Sauquillo, moderated by Irene Hernando. This event will bring together three voices with extensive public careers to delve into the reformist legacy of that period and the contribution of women to the social and political changes promoted.
For decades, Eibar has proudly claimed to be the first municipality to proclaim the Second Republic on April 14, 1931, as well as its defense against wartime bombings.
