Elkarrekin Podemos has filed a complaint with the Environmental Prosecutor's Office regarding the alleged illegal felling of four monumental trees in the Azkiaga area of Mutriku, citing a lack of required permits.

According to the political group, the developer of the execution unit proceeded on June 10 to fell two yew trees and one cedar, citing Mayoral Decree 48/2026. Two days later, on June 12, the branches of a Podocarpus were removed, which the complaint claims threatens the tree's future viability.
The complaint highlights that these trees, which are over 130 years old, were felled before the municipal permit for the urbanization works was granted. Furthermore, they note that no request was registered with the Territorial Balance Department of the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council, in violation of regional regulations.
The document submitted to the Prosecutor's Office emphasizes that the trees were protected under the Special Plan for Azkiaga. Additionally, they warn that the felling occurred during the bird breeding season, which is prohibited under Law 42/2007 on Natural Heritage and Biodiversity and the European Union Birds Directive.
