The public entity Bidegi will transform the Elgoibar toll station with an investment exceeding 5.7 million euros, implementing technological and infrastructure enhancements.

Bidegi, the public company managing toll roads in Gipuzkoa, has announced a "major transformation" of the toll station in Elgoibar. The project, involving an investment of 5,724,789 euros (VAT included), will span 16 months, with completion anticipated by October 25, 2027.
Initial preparatory work for this transformation began last Thursday, although the main construction phase, expected to have the most significant impact, will commence in "mid-July".
According to the public company, which is part of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa, the improvements will include "greater fluidity for Via-T users, the option to pay by mobile phone, enhanced lighting and signage, easier passage for special dimension vehicles, and preparation for future technologies."
The work will be carried out in 5 phases. Phase 0, starting now, is expected to last three months, concluding around September. This initial phase will not affect the traffic lanes, but Bidegi emphasizes that "the toll station will remain operational at all times, guaranteeing a minimum of two lanes."
Any activities requiring the reduction of these two lanes "will be conducted during nighttime hours or periods of low traffic density." This intervention aims to prepare the Elgoibar toll station for future challenges, with Bidegi committing to minimize disruption through constant communication and continuous traffic monitoring throughout the construction period.
