Arene Altonaga's Farewell and Eibar's New Project

Eibar concludes the season with a 2-1 victory over Logroño, but the day was marked by the emotional farewell of Arene Altonaga, one of the club's historic players.

The Ipurua stadium experienced a special atmosphere on Sunday, filled with emotion and symbolism. Eibar closed the 2025/26 Liga F season with a 2-1 victory against Logroño, but the result took a backseat to the farewell of Arene Altonaga, one of the club's most important recent players. The captain played her final minutes as an 'armera' after eight seasons defending the blue and white jersey, receiving well-deserved recognition from the club and fans.
The captain marked the end of a historic era at the club. Since her arrival in 2018, Arene has been a key figure in the locker room and a direct protagonist in some of the women's section's most significant chapters, including promotion to the First Division and the team's consolidation in the elite. Her entry onto the pitch in the second half was one of the most emotional moments of a historic day.
On the sporting front, Eibar also had reasons to celebrate. The team, managed by Iñaki Goikoetxea, concluded the championship with a hard-fought victory against a Logroño side that had also secured their permanence. Mireia Masegur opened the scoring in the first half, and shortly after, Iara Lacosta extended the lead. The visitors reduced the deficit after halftime, but the 'armeras' managed to hold on to their advantage to end the season with three more points.
This win allowed Eibar to finish in thirteenth place with 28 points, highlighting the team's strong reaction in the final stretch of the championship after a challenging second half of the season. With this victory, the 'armeras' completed a strong end to the season, achieving three wins, two draws, and only one loss.
Goikoetxea renews. With the season concluded, the team has already begun working on its next project. The club kicked off June by announcing the continuity of Iñaki Goikoetxea as head coach. The entity is committed to stability and maintaining the coach who successfully kept the team in Liga F during a season marked by a significant squad overhaul and the promotion of young players.
Furthermore, Eibar has also announced the departures of Patri Ojeda, Marta López de Guereñu, Laura Camino, Iara Lacosta, and Opah Clement, whose contracts expire this month. Particularly significant is the departure of Laura Camino, who concludes an era of four seasons and over a hundred matches with the 'armeras'.
With the season now over, Eibar is starting to lay the foundations for the 2026/27 project. This new chapter will begin without Arene Altonaga on the field, but with the legacy of a captain who is now part of the club's history.
