The mayor of Amurrio, accompanied by the president of the Araba Buru Batzar, a parliamentarian, and an MEP, traveled to Brussels. There, they met with representatives from the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG Grow) of the European Union, with the mayor describing the morning as “productive”.
The main objective of the meeting was to analyze the situation of Tubos Reunidos and, in general, the industry of Aiaraldea. According to the jeltzale representatives, they secured a “commitment to analyze and follow up on the lines of work that the PNV has put on the table”.
Three main lines of action were proposed. Firstly, they suggested studying “aid for debt rescue as a consequence of the impact of tariffs”. Secondly, they requested consideration of aid to be allocated to industry in the context of the Iran war. Finally, they proposed that Aiaraldea and Euskadi become a “European pilot project” to “advance in industrial transformation and decarbonization”.
“"Neither Aiaraldea nor Europe can afford to lose this industrial muscle."
In a press conference held after the meeting, the mayor of Amurrio acted as spokesperson, emphasizing the importance of the region's industrial fabric for both Aiaraldea and Europe.
