The mayors of Laudio, Aiara, and Artziniega expressed solidarity yesterday with the workforces of Tubos Reunidos and Maderas de Laudio, and proposed various measures to reduce energy consumption and promote regional energy sovereignty at the Aiaraldea Industrial Development Board.

The three municipal leaders, along with other participants in the fifth meeting of the Aiaraldea Industrial Development Board, emphasized the need to generate renewable energy close to the point of consumption. To achieve this, they deemed it essential to understand each municipality's energy needs and its capacity to meet them with renewable sources, as Aiara and Artziniega have done, or as Laudio has begun with its recently published Solar Map.
The progress of these proposed initiatives, which have generated surprise, should not stop there, and should be approached from a regional perspective, including natural Aiaraldea. In addition to advancing in energy sovereignty, they also raised the need to reduce energy consumption, highlighting freight rail transport and the electrification of the last-mile vehicle fleet.
Regarding rail transport, the need to improve the C3 commuter line was stressed. Currently, this line does not offer sufficient reliability for workers to use the train for commuting. Therefore, proper functioning to encourage its use and increased frequencies were considered essential, so that it also serves as an internal transport method within Aiaraldea.
In terms of production, they proposed the recovery of industrial residual heat and its extension to residential heating systems. Concerning industrial waste, the focus was placed on coordination, both among companies that might be interested in its use and those specifically dedicated to it, always aligning with the municipality's needs.
