The labor dispute began in September of last year, when the multinational company Garnica presented a regulation plan that foresaw 39 dismissals from a workforce of 151 employees. Ultimately, 35 workers were laid off in October 2025.
A key milestone in the conflict's progression was the ruling by the High Court of Justice of the Basque Country, which declared the dismissals "unjustified." Following this judicial decision, both parties returned to the negotiation table, and the workers have now backed the latest offer presented by the company a few days ago.
As specified by the ELA union, the reached agreement stipulates the rehiring of individuals dismissed in October 2025, provided they wish to return to work. The pact also entails the closure of legal proceedings.
The works council believes that the agreement and the end of the conflict are a direct result of the mobilizations, unity, and "struggle" maintained throughout these months, which have served to defend industry and employment in Aiaraldea.
Work stoppages will remain in effect in the coming days until management and the works council formally sign the strike termination agreement.
