The fire that broke out yesterday afternoon on Mount Idubaltza in Llanteno is now under control and contained, although firefighters are still working to prevent its resurgence. In addition to the units of firefighters and forest rangers from the Provincial Council of Álava, helicopters and seaplanes from Bizkaia, La Rioja, and Asturias were mobilized for the extinguishing efforts. The provincial helicopter, the Agricultural Brigade, firefighters from the Laudio park, and the Support Brigade for Forest Fires from the Spanish Government from Asturias continue to work in the area, and a bulldozer is also being used to create firebreaks.
The environmental association Uhandre Baso Biziak from Amurrio has expressed concern in a message shared on social media. The association has highlighted that year-round prevention work is as important as the resources for extinguishing the fire, and has defended that the debate on the forest model is "absolutely necessary".
As a precautionary measure, the swimming pools in Artziniega had to be evacuated yesterday to allow aerial means to collect water from the site. The Artziniega City Council has explained that the facilities will continue to be used for this purpose today, and that they will soon announce when the pools will reopen.
