Students from Aiaraldea will carry out an “intelligent shopping” initiative on May 7th and 8th, aiming to raise public awareness about the importance of responsible consumption to reduce food waste.

During these days, information points will be set up in the markets of Laudio and Amurrio, animated by the students themselves. They will offer awareness materials, such as brochures and refrigerator magnets, with practical guidelines to prevent food waste in households.
This action is the result of work carried out over the last two school years by the 11 educational centers participating in the Aiaraldea School Agenda 2030 program, which have focused their efforts on sustainable development goal number 12 regarding responsible production and consumption.
The project emerged from school reflection. After conducting a diagnosis last year and carrying out a process of reflection and consensus among the centers, this “transformative” action was defined as a response to the problem of food waste.
As a preliminary step, on April 16th, the regional school forum was held at Laudio's Kultur Etxea, with the participation of the 11 involved centers. During this meeting, the work done throughout the school year was shared, and the materials designed for the action were analyzed.
Additionally, some students took on the role of facilitators, while others played the part of neighbors, later exchanging roles. The Cuadrilla de Aiaraldea encourages citizens to visit the markets on the specified dates to learn firsthand about this initiative promoted by the students and contribute to more responsible consumption.
