During the industrial development board session held yesterday at Refor in Amurrio, representatives from Aiaraldea municipalities shared several initiatives aimed at reducing energy consumption. Among the proposals, the importance of generating renewable energy at the point of consumption was highlighted, as well as understanding each municipality's energy needs and its capacity to meet them with renewable sources.
Examples of these actions include the Sojo energy community, already operational in Artziniega and Ayala, and the commencement of the Solar Map development in Laudio. Representatives indicated that the progress of these initiatives has generated surprise, but that it is essential to adopt a natural regional perspective, including both the Álava and Biscay municipalities in the area.
“"The progress of the initiatives presented has generated surprise, but they should not stop there; it is necessary to have a natural regional perspective."
In addition to advancing Aiaraldea's energy sovereignty, the need to reduce energy consumption was also raised, with a focus on rail freight transport and the electrification of the vehicle fleet dedicated to last-mile delivery. Regarding railways, they consider the improvement of the C3 commuter line to be essential, as it currently does not offer the necessary reliability for the population to use the train for commuting. Therefore, it is imperative to optimize its operation to encourage its use and increase frequencies so that it also serves as an intra-regional transport route.
Concerning production, they have proposed recovering residual heat from industry, extending its use even to home heating systems. In the area of industrial waste, they have focused on coordination, both among companies that may be interested in its use and those specifically dedicated to it, always coordinating the needs that may arise in the municipalities of the region, including those in Biscay.
