The Bermeo City Council has launched an extensive public process with the aim of establishing a Feminist Empowerment Space for the women and dissidents of the town. Following an initial reflection phase with local stakeholders and women's groups, sessions open to all citizens will commence in the autumn to collectively define the nature, functions, and organizational model of this new space.
The primary objective of the project is to center the voices of Bermeo's residents and diverse realities, thereby collaboratively agreeing on the roadmap for the future space. To this end, the Council invites all citizens to envision and construct this public-community space together.
To publicize the process and sow the initial seeds of reflection, the first meeting is scheduled for September 18th at 6:30 PM in Bekoportalen. This event will feature two main parts: a humorous monologue titled ‘Gregoria’ by actress Beatriz Egizabal, and an exchange of experiences where the trajectories of existing empowerment centers in other towns will be explored to gather ideas and insights for Bermeo's project.
The main working session of the participatory process will take place during an open assembly on the morning of Saturday, October 17th. In this assembly, citizens will have the opportunity to contribute their ideas regarding the space's usage, nature, and management, gradually bringing the project to fruition.
