According to the Basque Government, these municipalities, lacking beaches, require specific attention to ensure public spaces are suitable, safe, and equipped with basic services for both residents and visitors. In this context, interventions tailored to the reality of each locality are being developed, with a practical and results-oriented approach.
“"We are providing a concrete response to the needs of these municipalities, strengthening services, improving infrastructure, and guaranteeing safety in the ports during the months of highest influx."
In the port of Mundaka, key actions include the renovation of public restrooms and the space for summer surveillance personnel, as well as the dredging of the outer dock, which is essential for facilitating boat anchoring. Additionally, coastal area stairs are being repaired, and security will be reinforced with a private surveillance service from June to September.
In Elantxobe, interventions have focused on improving port safety and usage conditions, by contracting private surveillance in summer and enclosing a port warehouse. These actions complement previous works, such as the repair of the railing accessing the summer pool, enhancing accessibility and safety in the area.
Furthermore, in Ea, the Basque Government has collaborated closely with the local council to facilitate the installation of basic seasonal services. The placement of showers and beach huts in the port has been authorized, improving the coastal experience during the busiest months.
“"Ensuring territorial balance also means acting in these municipalities, and doing so with facts: with investments, with maintenance work, and with direct collaboration with the local councils."
