Martinez, born in 1968 in Barakaldo (Bizkaia), had the accident on Saturday morning in Gatika (Bizkaia). After being in the intensive care unit of Cruces Hospital, he passed away surrounded by friends and family.
Martinez, a Sociology professor at UPV/EHU and an activist with the Joxemi Zumalabe Foundation, dedicated a significant part of his life to supporting citizens and movements working towards social transformation. His career was long and fruitful, including being a member of Joxemi Zumalabe both before and after the 18/98 trial, as well as a member of Sare and the Gurpide association in Larrabetzu.
He was a member of the Department of Sociology and Social Work at UPV/EHU and part of the Parte Hartuz research group. He also served on the pedagogical committee of the Master's degree in Participation and Community Development and participated in the Telefónica project in the San Frantzisko neighborhood of Bilbao.
Described by those around him as a committed and approachable individual, he was deeply connected to the struggles of popular movements. He dedicated his life to numerous community projects, prioritizing a collective perspective, collaborative dynamics, and the nurturing of group processes.
He had two sons: Amets and Markel.
