The Vitoria-Gasteiz neighborhoods of Coronación and Arana, among the city's most aged areas, launched the new Proximity Home Help Service (SAD) on Monday, June 1st.

The municipal Department of Social Policies has reported positively on the initial phase of this experience, which draws inspiration from similar initiatives in cities like Barcelona and Logroño. The goal is to improve both the quality of care provided to beneficiaries and the working conditions of the staff.
The proximity SAD model operates with stable professional teams serving specific groups of elderly individuals, who may have any of the three recognized dependency levels. A key feature is that they are attended at home by at least two professionals simultaneously.
The continuity of reference caregivers allows for a better understanding of the needs, preferences, and habits of the individuals being assisted. This also fosters stronger bonds and enhances their sense of security, well-being, and companionship.
Furthermore, the project integrates a relational approach to care, recognizing that the quality of life for users is "closely linked" to the quality of employment for those providing the care.
Reduced travel times, greater organizational stability, fewer continuous changes in personnel, and improved service planning contribute to better working conditions for the staff, increased job satisfaction, and a strengthened commitment to the care provided.
Currently, 21 professionals are participating in this pilot program.
